As of the other day, I know exactly the wrong thing to say on a coffee date. First off, I think she had issues to begin with. The place she suggested was frequented by her ex, who happened to walk by while we were there. Then she did this over dramatic "It is so awkward running to an ex..." to which I replied with a joke that I thought was funny, "I don't have that problem, for some reason all my exes seem to either move away or die in suspicious circumstances."
That provoked an (almost) literal "CHECK PLEASE!" event.
On the upside, I now have an exit strategy for bad dates in the future.

what scares you the most?
Drowning or dying in a fire are pretty much neck and neck for me. I'm also a fairly angry person, as in I can go from being perfectly happy to borderline murderous rage in the span of about sixteen milliseconds under the wrong/right conditions, so I worry that some day I will not be able to contain it in time and get myself thrown in jail or worse. Of course, I'm not so much worried about it for my sake, since if I hit that point I'm pretty much written off anyway, I'm afraid of how it would effect those who depend on me, especially my dog.
I actually held back and didn't break up a fight/group beating one night because I was afraid that if one of the pieces of trash involved were to pull a knife or a gun and then get extremely lucky with it, I could have been seriously injured/killed, and then nobody would have been there to let my dog out of her crate or to feed her. I just held up my phone and yelled that I'd called the cops, and even though it worked, I still felt like a complete eunich for taking that route.

RMN bugs (v4)
I should have a maker score of 29, based on my submissions page, but I'm now showing one of 31. Unless I was awarded 2 MS for something I'm not aware of, the count is off.
Minor update
Part of the idea behind the project is to make the game using as stock a version of the maker as possible. I think the version I'm using for this one doesn't even include key processing for the shift key.
It is kind of weird to have three different projects that I'm working on in three different versions of the same maker, at the same time.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!
I wasn't happy with the first iteration of my boss fight entry, so I scrapped it and started from scratch again. Up to 30 skills now, which may or may not be enough... next up, items.

How much I love the tuning used on Thurston Moore's song "Honest James." That is easily my favorite track from Trees Outside the Academy, and I just had to try and learn it. I got about halfway through the song before I just started messing around in the tuning.
It sounds so mellow and full that it makes adlibing pretty much effortless. I'm using the tuning for two songs and counting with my band. Originally, a tuning I came up with was going to be our new staple sound, but that might be changing now.
I keep my guitars in GGDDFF, DAEGBB and DDAF#AD. It has been so long I'd probably trip all over myself if I tried playing anything other than a bass in standard.

Boss Battle Design Contest - Knowledge is Power
I'm not crazy about the idea of just making a boss battle in a vacuum, without any context or insight into to your characters' abilities from the outset, but I might try cobbling something together for this.

After starting a New Game+, I have to make an amendment to my previous assessment of Arkham City.
It still feels a little rushed to me, and some of the contrivances in place to get all the plot elements neatly walled up in this one section of Gotham almost get a little eye-rolling at times, but it is a very fun game.
Playing without the counter indicators turned on actually makes combat a lot more fun and engaging. Instead of feeling like random QTE events, countering now requires actually paying attention to things going on around you.
My main gripe is still the lack of an indicator for what enemy I'm actually targeting my next attack at. Some of the sections where there are three types of enemies you can't directly attack clustered in with twenty other guys are really frustrating. I have a 60+ combo going and I tilt my stick toward the one guy left near me I can actually hit normally, only to see Batman try to punch a shield guy to his right and break the streak. If they don't mind hazing Riddler's henchmen green in the HUD, why can't they give some sort of shimmer or outline to show where you are actually going to attack next!?
Also, not fond of the new HUD. It looks like a battery indicator.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?
Finally resolved a shipping issue (amazon defaulted to an old p.o. box I haven't used in years for some reason) and got my copy of Arkham City today. So far, the jury is still out.
The escape sequence at the beginning was really good, and had me amped up for the game, but my enthusiasm was quickly diminished upon getting to move around more freely and discovering that most of the problems I had with the original are still there, with a couple new ones thrown in for fun.
The bigger environment somehow ends up feeling more claustrophobic, which makes no sense. It feels like the camera is even tighter on Batman now, to the point I want to ask him to move aside a bit. Speaking of the camera, I've already run into more camera issued than I did in the whole of Arkham Asylum.
Also, it seems like the character models are made up of less polygons, and some of the building textures I've seen so far would almost feel at home on the original X-box. It is much more noticeable on certain characters. The mix/match polygon count (or my perception of it) makes the game a little strange to look at. This may just be me though, I'm still filtering half my visual information through a screwed up eye (Thanks to the most recent round of drops, close range vision has improved PAST my normal baseline, while long range is still sitting around the 50 range)
I'm sure once I get more used to the little quirks this one has introduced that I'll end up having a lot of fun with it, but right now it almost feels like a chore. I've literally played about two forty five minute chunks and turned it off to go watch tv or make dinner.
